Some people are mad at Bobby for being greedy because he wants the rights to GD SBD's. Do I have that right?

Do to the access they allowed us here & at gdlive for a few years, the great stuff is now out there, to trade and torrent(SB's). Thank you -Bobby, Phil, Mickey and Bill for that window of opportunity! (no real thanks fer pullin the plug though) I do like immediate gratification though I appreciate things I worked for (or grovel for) more- we'll get by

You're damn right I'm mad at Bobby! When the hell is that son of a b&*^$ gonna shave?! I mean enough is enough! Is he spending his off hours in Maine re-enacting Civil War battles or something? I mean this is what happens when you have a child. You let yourself go. How can his wife even stand to kiss him let alone look at him? Is this Bob, our rock god of yesteryear? Should Mick Jagger give him a call?I saw him on Hallowe'en when he came out in ghoul make-up for the Werewolves encore and with that beard (Can we even call it a beard? It looks like David Crosby if his razor broke on a desert island). It was more frightening than George Bush on a frat house binge. I remember times when Jerry Garcia looked like he'd cut his own hair with a pair of nail clippers but this! This is ridiculous!

Thanks for asking.

Thanks Dire. Answered your Blue Jays enquiry back on the shredded thread of SOTM. I was actually thinking of starting a new thread called Getting Back to Standing on the Moon. But I think once the SOTM naysayers weighed in and Dew became the topic the SOTM was done too. Tie-Dyed Tom has plenty to go on now.

Wonder if he's mad at Bobby?

I'm not mad at Bobby. He's just being Bobby. I used to laugh when he did his chicken dance while playing LRR on stage. IMO, Bobby's always wanted to grab the limelight (and that's fine, every member of the band has had their own uniqueness and brought color to the overall picture... sometimes I like to hear Donna scream, sometimes not).

I always liked the fact that I could freely trade tapes but, I also have supported the recording industry and all involved by buying every tape that the Grateful Dead had produced at that time (early 90's). Then, as CDs became the media, I went back and bought every CD up to Dick's Picks Volume 1 (then I took a break). Oh, and I even bought that CD w/ the various artists doing Dead covers (my favorite part was the intro walking through the parking lot) but, anyway.

So, what I'm saying is that for all of us who traded and were into the band through concert attendance or standing outside w/ our fingers in the air, we've probably already got all the music we ever needed/wanted.

For those coming up behind us, sure it would be nice if it were free, (it probably will be to an extent) but, I can't fault any member of the band. I've enjoyed the ride and will find a way to continue to do so (paying or not). Isn't that the definition of a deadhead? "a nonenterprising person who is not paying his way" :O

Don't blame bobby for the beard, it's jerry's scruff that took root on bob's chin cause it recognized that he had healthy host potential. Although that rolly fingers' handle bar tryin' to tread water is pushing it.........in response to the post a few days ago, I will send you a few cassettes if you want/need them..............

Sending me cassettes is a kind offer. What I meant was that if anybody really needs or wants to get rid of tapes because they've gone totally digital I'll take 'em. I really don't need them but I'd hate to see any tapes just get tossed. So thanks for your kind offer. But if you're holding on to them then cool.

I'm trying to avoid weighing in on Bobby because it's absurd to me (like his beard!) but there's a scene in Festival Express in which a guy in Mashmakhan is being interviewed about the protests when the Festival hit Toronto. The music should be free screamed the protesters (never mind that the promoters lost their shirts on the deal!). So the musician from Mashmakhan is talking to one of the protesters and asks the protester if he has a job. The guy says he works in a clothing store. "Great," says the musician. "I'll be down there tomorrow to pick up my free suit."

I remember seeing a clip from somewhere(I assumed England) from @ 1970 where jerry was talking to the crowd and people were blathering about the bands being sellouts and how the music should be free. Then joni mitchell sang the "don't know what you got till it's gone" song. Seemed like an apt response. I'm back and forth on my tapes, some are 20 years old and I hate the thought of parting with them but it's kinda pointless for them to simply hang out in boxes. I would really like to give them to people who don't have access to live dead so they will be played hard and often....

Hey now, You could give the tapes to a Salvation Army Store, though they do sell them, it would be way less than the original blank cost. It supports one of the best-honest charities out there. You would be turning a lot of people on.

In the punk era getting recoed contract was considered selling out. Operation Ivy put out a record and they were* called sellouts. The whole thing's insane.

I have 800 cassettes already so maybe there's someone whose got a tapedeck and raring to go analog who's needier than me. If not we can work something out. You probably have a lot of stuff I don't have.

Ya make some music for thirty or forty years. Make people happy. Then you go---"Who's doin' what? Hey, I wrote that song.". F*!&^ you buddy, we're downloading all your soundboard stuff for free because the music should be free.
Oh yeah? Where do you work? What are you givin' away for free? Are you working in a law office? Giving all you time away to whoever wants it? I'm an actor. Should my acting be for free? I have another friend who's a courier. Should he deliver packages because the packages should be free? Is Bruce Springsteen giving it away? Bob Marley's estate? Herbie Hancock? Big Brother? John Cage?
Tom Waits? Peter Coyote was one of the Diggers. Feeding people in the Haight. Keeepin' it together. Now that he's an actor should he work for nothing. Hey, I can pay to see E.T. or I can download it. Neil Young has said after chasing bootleggers for 30 nears that now he doesn't mind people trading bootlegs now that he's old and stinking rich. Think Bobby's a rich as Neil? Think Neil would allow people to download soundboards of all his live appearances of the last thirty-five years?

Remember what age this musician is. Remember that internet concepts of f^&*ing copywright might be a little out of his ken. Maybe he's an old fashioned American with an idea of getting paid for his work. When they set up a taper section in the early 80's did they forsee this? Did they ever pretend that they weren't into making a living at this? I mean he's not Aereosmith. The guy is playing bars and small theatres.

I'm an actor and I'm constantly below the poverty line. Does that mean after thirty some odd years of good times Bob Weir owes me anything? You know why he said "See ya."? Because he knows he doesn't owe us a thing. He gave his f^&^%$in' nervous system for us. What more do you want? Like I said this is the most absurd stuff. Listen to live shows from the early days. Listen to how they relate to their audience. They were punks. They're still punks. They're grateful to us, have affection for us but look... Garcia licenced out his artwork for frickin' ties before he died. He was wrting books. Do you think he should have come to your house and given it to you for free or put it on the internet? Think he would have daid okay? Think again.

The music should be free. It is free!!! Stream away. How long before an enterprising deadhead beats this whole thing anyway? Or already has? How many shows do you need in your collection? What does Weir have to do. Apologize? "I'm sorry, I was in a really bad mood that day." Anybody know any musicians? They're not exactly diplomats. (When I was ten years old I thought Garcia was an a-hole! Check out what he says to Harry Popick at the Omni in '95 and that guy's a friend!!) A lot of these shows are available elsewhere. Get a life! He's not going to apologize.

And worse? He's probably not going to shave!!!!

Damn. And I said I wasn't going to be drawn into this.
If the boys ever re-unite and do another tour I'm selling "See Ya." t-shirts in the parking lot. Oh no. Sorry. I'll give them away for free. Because the t-shirts should be free.

My morbid curiousity wants to know what it is that bobby said that was so extreme. I'm kinda out of the recent goings-on but if he was responding to a protest petition about the sdbs. he apparently took the moral high road by not pulling all free dead music. A petition to protest the taking back of what was given freely by those who were generous enough to give it in the first place??? IT'S HIS/THEIR MUSIC!!! It's laughable to assume that someone is entitled to a recording of a show that they bought a ticket for, let alone the entire catalog. Hard to wrap the brain around that logic. Wish I would have known ahead of time though, would have burned a bunch of sdbs. at the last minute.....heh

I am certainly more in the camp that whatever Bobby feels the need to do, well, that is his prerogative, and i'm not going to lose any sleep over it. After all, there's a huge wealth of shows already "out there" for anyone who's willing to put in just a modicum of effort. And i, for one, am appreciative of all the memories and times that the Dead provided in my otherwise disfunctional life. However, that being said, i am also of the camp that there's a certain validity, or lack thereof, that all artists bring to their art, whether that art be "high" or "low." And the Dead possessed that validity in very large part throughout the greater portion of their time under the sun, and perhaps throughout their entire span of existence up until Jerry left us. The bickering and in-fighting and seeming greed that i am reading and hearing about in recent times only proves that, at the core, even artists are apt to be betrayed by the very human impulses that all of us are tempted by, whether we give in or no. So, to me, Bobby, and to a lesser extent the other members of the Dead, are no longer the people i formerly perceived them to be. They have become part of the corporate musical structure, run by lawyers and yes-men, and they have therefore removed themselves from my respect, whatever their pronouncements or actions. Thus, they join the ranks of all those other, now less than real, musicians and artists who have sacrificed theit integrity and artistic vision to the more inviting landscape of blandness, i.e., McCartney, Who, Stones, E. John, etc. into ad infinitum.

It's my opinion and i'm sticking by it.

Anyone who takes issue with any decision the band makes regarding their future(retirement?) should protest by not downloading any more free dead music. The only reason this forum exists is because we all have had dead induced experiences that were enjoyable enough to make our time here worthwhile. Of all the investments in time and money that I've made the dead related days and nights have yielded some of the highest returns. They have 40+ years of their lives wrapped up in this, we bought tickets for shows, we saw shows, we purchased albums or dick' picks, we got what we purchased, end of obligation. No one is entitled to anything beyond their memories and possessions. Try telling your long-time mechanic that he should work on your car for free since you have been a faithful customer for so many years.......what's the difference?

all he had to do was apologize for the one comment/the way it came out. we've all said stupid things before in various stupid ways. he offended alot of people (emphasis on alot) and a simple "sorry 'bout that choice of words" would have gone a long way in my book. i'm sure he was not the only decision make in this rhino deal. plus, i'm sure he was kinda tired as i believe the interview was during a heavy touring schedule.

why should he apologize? A bunch of people were throwing a petition in his face with a big middle finger. All he did was throw it back. This completely reminds me of the protesters in Festival Express. Even Jerry was rubbed the wrong way by their whiny entitlement attitudes. Of course they played free to keep the peace kinda like putting SBD's back in streaming huh? Also - I don't know all the details but I'm willing to bet it aint just Bobby regardless of what Phil says. If that's the case where is Phil NOW? Doesn't he have any say? I think Bob just happens to be the only one with the balls to address it. Maybe I'm wrong but this is my hunch.

unlike the protesters in Festival Express, those that protested pulling of all GD files from the LMA last November received their entitlement from Mr. Garcia himself;

http://youtube.com/watch?v=pcDzpEsJDHk&search=jerry%20garcia

"...and when we're done with it, they can have it"

pulling the entire collection, getting a plug in the NY Times, then restoring the aud's for downloading and sbd's for streaming was nothing more than a cheap marketing ploy that backfired

times have certainly changed

most of what the Jerry Garcia era GD experience has imparted to us follows us through life without aid of external recording players

until they invent the thought police (sure gonna need those protesters then), jam on brothers and sisters

Whatever, this has been covered to death. I have no axe to grinde at all nor do I claim to know WWJD ( what would Jerry do ha!) I don't put any stock in what he said 25 years ago - most likely high to boot. I feel in no way owed and am thankful for all they have done. Now granted I think they would have made considerably more money getting on the ball and releasing things a LONG time ago ( such as Sunshine daydream) but whatever.

The only thing that makes me sad is how no one can even seem to come close. Phish was probably the closest at being musically interesting and impressive to me but they never did any more than that to me - entertain. No one has even a glimpse of the magic the Dead had.

Speaking of shirts, at the Cap Center show (or was it the MCI center by then?) where they broke out the Ripple encore to make up for an otherwise dud of a show, in the parking lot before hand my friend and I were selling black hanes t-shirts like Jer wore (black with the pocket) for $5. "Wear the shirt Jerry wears - only $5." We sold two and were left with two a piece (mine is still in use). Anyway, Jerry wore some funky Guatemalan (sp?) shirt that night. I've always wondered if someone in the organization told him about us. Sure did flip our lids.

It is too bad that the band wouldn't leverage the talent pool of Deadheads to transition to GDP. The Bay Area alone is filled with all sorts of new media heads that would've love to be a part of it. But it's their work, and I hope they can do interesting things with surround sound.

Until then, we can get most anything if we really want. It's not that hard. The streams are almost always better than my old tapes. There's plenty of GDP stuff, free easy fast audience, and you can still trade all you want.

Collecting is fun, but there's nothing you can hold very long, anyway.

The only shirt that bothered me was the Madonna one, or was that my imagination?

Actually what is troubling is the Bobby connection to The Bohemian Club and the deceptive Ann Coulter, which I just read about at deadnews.blogspot.com. Maybe they are trying kind words to get at remnants of conscience, or maybe those conspiracy theories about the Tavistock Institute aren't so far off.

I read Ann's column's, then i decide what is deceptive and what's not. Same with the deceptive Murtha and Moorer. Bobby?? Oooooooo, not the dreaded Bohemian club! God help us!!

GDP, an organization of hundred people didn't have someone capable of issuing a press release in conjunction with their decision November 22, 2005, to remove the entire LMA GD collection?

You make a excellant case for the work of the artists, but what about the countless hours of work by the non GDP volunteers who made this collection possible, the same collection that has been and is now providing "free" promotion of the shows, did they not deserve an explanation?

Didn't Jerry Garcia once describe the Grateful Dead as an organization that doesn't work "too good" in the straight world? I always think they're trying their best to make sense of chaos (we're all part of that chaos) for themselves because they embraced chaos for so many decades. I wish them all well in their golden years as I do all of you out there. As Snoopy said, "Make one mistake and you pay for it for the rest of your life." I think as Calamity Jane says on Deadwood that we get up and learn how to live all over again. That's why I'm jumpin' the thread, keepin' my lavender, embossed, bona fide Bobby Weir Alligator shirt, and goin' where the climate suits my...well...my lavender, embossed, bona fide Bobby Weir Alligator shirt...I...umm...guess...

Then-spokesman Dennis McNally spoke to the New York Times that week. That article probably had more impact than a typical press release.

as best as i can tell (having some trouble negotiating the forum archives) that NY Times article did not appear until November 29/05, a full week after the LMA GD collection was removed without explanation

in the mean time Mr. Weir was personally offended by the impatience of some of the deadheads and fought back...the resultant unnecessary and avoidable war caused disasterous results not only between GD and their very small fan base but between the fans themselves and may also have significantly contributed to GDP's tragic downfall

although these discussions at times seem hopeless and somewhat indulgent, it does appear that each side is much closer to understanding each other than last November

Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to learn about ourselves and each other...this truly is a primo forum

The whole thing was handled deplorably by both sides (myself included). Unfortunately the LMA got stuck in the middle of it when there was nothing they could do. I don't blame the LMA for shutting all Dead down for awhile until things straightened out, but many on the forum kept blasting the dead AND the LMA, the latter of which was unwarranted in my opinion. They couldn't risk all they had done over the past several years over one band. The Archive is so much bigger than just the dead.

Much of what i say about Bobby is just blowing smoke up my own ass. Atleast he had the balls to fire back, unlike the other surviving band members.

You are right, the LMA has been completely generous allowing us to vent, exchange ideas, and just ramble on. They even gave us babblers our own forum!! That is why i am sending out some quid to them after i get out of my surgery next week. They have been great!!! The work that Diana, Brad, Tyler, Tracy etc etc do is truly great - forget the dead... they keep all this other great music up here for us with great selection, ease of access, and great download speeds. And all for FREE unless we feel inclined to send them a bit of cash (tax deductible i might add). It sure aint free for the Archive. Any bit helps and we all owe them what we can afford for all this great service and music. (i'm starting to sound like a paid spokesman - lol - a new career for me... yay)

I think I'll just shut up now :)

p.s. - me bad - forgot to thank all the tapers and uploaders - they are kinda important too since without them, the music couldn't get here. Hope Charlie Miller/skb archives hasn't totally dropped out of the uploading picture - he rocks

i also have more dead music and others that i could listen to in a lifetime - even have a ton still sitting in zip files - unopened and unburned.
"Mad" is not the issue - it is the "scolding" of someone i more or less looked up to (unfortunatley). It was the manner or the scolding and the word choice involved more than the message itself. It is a disappointment issue rather than an anger issue. Anger is long gone within me, but, unfortunately, disappointment lasts far far longer than anger in any "relationship." The spoken word is like the spent arrow. What Bob said, he said, it cannot be taken back. It is what it is - their music still brings me happiness, but, Bob's great voice now forever holds the aura and echo of "see ya." Unfortunate? yes - but that is life for us and for him.

I read that JamBand.com interview with Ann Coulter and LMAO. Our first Grateful Dead concerts were a life changing experience, for everybody I know/knew over these decades. Most of us remember that day even though we were stoned out of our minds. Ann is the first one, to claim that she doesn't remember that day/night.

She dened getting high at her mystery show. We know that recreational chemistry can cause short term memory loss; but it hardly made us that stupid. I just found her claims to be a load of s---...

I know that the enjoyment of the Grateful Dead music (or most music for the matter) can trancend politics, left or right, up or down. I know plenty of conservatives, liberals, straight and crooked people, atheists and Christians who enjoy the music.
There's not much "politics" in the music, imo. When the deceptive Al Gore and deceptive Ann Coulter enjoy the same music-bravo! That's a good thing. And it's a start to world pea's. Let the rest be uptight and outta sight.
IMO, the right AND the left both spew out plenty of deception. I think one should be open to the truth wherever it rears it's "ugly" head -lol -and not close their mind because of ill-founded propaganda from most political systems. Lot of closed minded hate out there, from the Bush haters to the religious nut cases, jammin a bible or Koran down my throat. What's this has to do with Bobby? Ashes to Ashes-all fall down. Controlled folly at best.
In the meantime, listen to the music play.

and of course that closes my mind like a steel trap, gotta get out the pitchforks folks! Demonization is a good tool though, for revolution. As Emma said, "If I can't dance, it's not my revolution" Hold it, wait....ah..I'm getting my marching orders from Moorer, no, wait....from Rush...no, wait...Savage...the DNC....the RNC....jeeze!! who's tool may i be? lol

"monster" is in the eye of the beholder i suspect. Wanna real monster? Go to Hammas or Hezbollah and get a Koran force fed down your throat or your head sawed off.
I've seen plenty of "monsters" on the streets of San Francisco, godless hateful people who nuthug evil and stifle free speech, seen 'em in church too. God bless Al and Ann, and teach them unbiased wisdom-Bush too-hell, even Hammas (fat chance)lol
Enjoying good ole Grateful Dead and seeing the good in people opens my mind. Or look in the mirror and spew the hate and see it steal your face. Imo, monsters blow themselves and innocent people up and call themselves freedom fighters. I try to read and give a thoughtful listen to most of the talking heads, then discern the truth. Do I hate? sure. But I hate evil, and evil is as evil does.
there i go, another rant!! Here's the last half of a poem i learned from a very liberal high school teacher:

'The glacier knocks in the cupboard,
The desert sighs in the bed,
And the crack in the tea-cup opens
A lane to the land of the dead.

'Where the beggars raffle the banknotes
And the Giant is enchanting to Jack,
And the Lily-white Boy is a Roarer,
And Jill goes down on her back.

'O look, look in the mirror,
O look in your distress:
Life remains a blessing
Although you cannot bless.

'O stand, stand at the window
As the tears scald and start;
You shall love your crooked neighbour
With your crooked heart.'

It was late, late in the evening,
The lovers they were gone;
The clocks had ceased their chiming,
And the deep river ran on.

Do you know that Hamas was funded early on by the gov't of Israel and that Hezbollah formed as a response to Israeli invasion and occupation that never ended? Perhaps you're able to drive on the Jewish-only roods in West Bank Palestine.

I'm not able , and I don't appreciate foul descriptions of Jesus and Mary by certain rabbis -- while of course recognizing that all Jews are not Nazis and all Israelis are not thieves and liars. all i know is that Christians and Jews are much more civilized in how they "push" their religion at least in the last century. While the Christians do wish to preach the gospel to the whole world, there is waaaaay more violence by radical Islam with bordering countries all around the world. Some Christians may tell you if your not "born again" you'll go to hell after you die, Radical Islam will kill you before you die! And enslave you with Shiria law (or however it's speled) against your will. Read the text books that Saudi gradeschool kids are taught out of even NOW, VERY anti-jew and any other religion for the matter + and still being taught HATE for them. Violent religious intolorance is much more prevelent in Islam than any other religion imo, with it's "Martyers" and pure hate speech.
When will Islam have a reformation and just get along with the west? I'm not holding my breath... (except for better things) Very few, if any people blow themselves and others up in the name of Jesus. Tim McVay may have been "Christian" at one time, but he had mideast help imo,
I don't think Bush has a clue...nor the administrations before him, on the true threat of radical Islam. The CHILDREN have to be taught to love one another, and be tolerent. The word "Peace" to many muslims mean a peaceful Islamic world- after the infidels (most of us) are either converted or ungratefully dead. In the light of all that (sounds great in my head-lol) being "mad" at Bobby is the least of my worries-ha! (i had to somehow tie this rant into the thread)

>>>all i know is that Christians and Jews are much more civilized in how they "push" their religion at least in the last century.>>>

I't doesn't that religion has much to do with really. The system of the empire is not entirely one of pure force, but of propaganda mixed with truth to take advantage of human desire and fear. They are very slick, in that most people exist in a matrix of concensus reality without realizing that inhumane forces guide economic development.

Do people really believe that ketchup is a proper vegetable for poor children, that American nuns can be raped and murdered by the Contras because they are 'real' nuns, that there shouldn't be a peace dividend after the fall of the Russians.

The West have run amok on the world since 1492 in so many cruel ways, from mass genocide to slavery to economic slavery to support of tyrannical regimes. Someday this darkness of OURS has got to give.

We should worry about the plank in our eye, not the speckled flaw in our brother's eye -- this is what Jesus said right?

>>>Radical Islam will kill you before you die! And enslave you with Shiria law (or however it's speled) against your will. Read the text books that Saudi gradeschool kids are taught out of even NOW, VERY anti-jew and any other religion for the matter + and still being taught HATE for them.>>>

Sharia law doesn't apply to non-Muslims. Radicals in Islam only are a warped mirrored of response to tyranny. I doubt you know too well what is taught in Arabia, where the Saudi regime would not be exist without US troops and support.

We here grew up with lies in our schoolbooks, as show in James Loewens' "Lies My Teacher Told Me" and Howard Zinn's "A People's History of the United States" which is really good despite the title.

>>>Violent religious intolorance is much more prevelent in Islam than any other religion imo, with it's "Martyers" and pure hate speech.>>>

That's quite a claim. People in Muslim countries defend themselves; they aren't in charge of a global empire. Free Tibet is a tall order, but there's no oil there I guess.

>>>>Tim McVay may have been "Christian" at one time, but he had mideast help imo, I don't think Bush has a clue...nor the administrations before him, on the true threat of radical Islam.>>>>

It seems like the neocons got to you. We have plenty of homegrown issues. Reagan unleased the militias and our government committed crimes against MOVE in Philly, that KKK family in Idaho[?], and against the innocent of the David Koresh followers. There is no such thing as collateral damage -- murder is murder.

They even have to manufacture threats like the Miami 7, who wanted to destroy the Sears Tower and fight the govt in a ground war -- if only the FBI would give them shoes.

There's little that radical Islam can do to hurt the US, but we seems quite capable of destroying the good parts of what Americans before us struggled for. I think the town has reason to be nervous and they are poisoning us with words, to quote Dylan.

The whole thing in Lebabnon can easily be seen as a neocon chickenhawk project to rescue their power from be lost in the next few elections.

There's serious stuff in those GD songs. The messengers' job is to shed light and not to master. Please don't get zombified!

>>>The CHILDREN have to be taught to love one another, and be tolerent. The word "Peace" to many muslims mean a peaceful Islamic world- after the infidels (most of us) are either converted or ungratefully dead.>>>

Are you serious? Most people want to live in peace and actually have to trained to overcome instincts against killing other people. I think the ADULTS need more work.

A cursory glance at Islam shows that forced conversion isn't allowed -- because they don't want hypocrits. You can have your religion and it's laws. I don't know about the radical sects but they don't represent history or practice of Muslims.

I think there's much more to fear from Christians on this point, given trends and history. Jewish people should remain very wary of the Christian Right, and all of us should be concerned about the development of a system of Anti-Christ.

>>My answer? Dose the mideast and all world and religious leaders with at least 3,000mg of LSD/person -crazy, perhaps but "out of the box" lol>>

I could take you to task on most every point you made here. I've heard and studied them all. from both sides.
I'm sure if there is an anti-christ, he'll raise from Iran. The "Christian right" is the best friend Israel has,
Maybe not the "New York" liberal Jews, but Israel. I was raised a Catholic and later converted to the born again Christianity, but now i am a Frizbetarian.

Militant Islam is not a response to our "tyranny" they define tyranny as ANY sytem not their own...HELLO!!!
They define "peace" as ridding the world of ANY system except their own. The USA has ton's of religious tolorance and freedom.
Try going to Iran or Saudi Arabia and sharing Jesus or practicing any other religion other than Islam. They are very intolerant. It's a propaganda lie that they are just freedom fighters, fighting our "tyranny" as you put it.
The Islamofacists (or Islamonatzi's-if the other term ooooofends you-lol) have direct connections to Adolph and the pit of hell/pure evil. They have an agenda of world dominance. They will lie and deceive the infidel anyway possible. If you are not "awake" to that, then you are a tool. A ray of hope was when a good Muslim actually turned in the bad one's in England. The bad one's are Intolerance Incarnate. Period. Look at ANY country run by secular Islam, they make war on their neighbors no matter what their belief system is. It has nothing to do with Israel except to misdirect their true intolerant Jihad against
A-N-Y O-N-E not like them. Chop-chop to gays, atheists, jews, christians, hindu's and if they can't fight them, they're fighting each other. Evil & Hate incarnate.
A real no-brainer. I suppose you think Hugo Chavaz, dumb yong kim and castro are at all cool?? hope not, then you'd be a total spaced moron and tool of evil. But i have hope.
true peace, bro!

With friends like those, and the apartheid regime of the past South Africa, you really have to wonder! Who's to say that even if the anti-Christ does come from Iran, he won't have come from Israel or the US before that: "Got to be good looking 'cause he's so hard to see...Come together right now over me."

>>Militant Islam is not a response to our "tyranny" they define tyranny as ANY sytem not their own...HELLO!!! >>>

Right but the problem is who does the defining. I awoke to a realization once when I noticed that 3 Jewish people were discussing the future of Palestine on a network news show. How could they think they could have an earnest conversation without a representative Palestinian? I then wondered why I never noticed any of this.

In a similar way I had to be told blankly that the reason they sent the teacher into space over the objection of NASA scientists was that Reagan was supposed to talk to her during his State of the Union talk and they delayed of already too much.

I do think that the US is more "Muslim" than Muslim countries in terms of normative Islam's views of religious tolorance and freedom. But that doesn't mean they hate us because of our freedom! Have you heard of the World Bank, the IMF, the Pentagon, Hollywood? Pacino's main speech in ‘Devil’s Advocate’ was spot on.

>>>The Islamofacists...have direct connections to Adolph and the pit of hell/pure evil. They have an agenda of world dominance. >>>

Yes you do have to demonize and dehumanize your enemy before you commit atrocities. Unfortunately for the good people of the US, our stated 'defense' strategy is full spectrum dominance, or total information and domination.

If you want a balanced view of the main wingnut factions check out 'The Power Of Nightmares' on Archive.org or on Youtube and the others. 'They' (and They Live, those Sutherland/Shrub-type Puppet Masters) refused to listen to my aunts and uncles on Vietnam, and since have taken this country and to the world to a bucketload of trouble. The movie Syriana isn't perfect but I couldn't help but to wonder why, since the 60s esp, the establishment have put barriers to change that are required for peace and even the survival of humans.

Garcia said sure save the rainforests, and it seems by extension all the souls that will listen, but as he said it's a "sick game." If you guys are angry with God for giving the Arabs and Muslims most of the oil, ask God for something better. But it's not OUR oil.

who ever mentioned being angry at God for giving arabs the oil. In actuality, we have more oil in the west than all of the middle east combined. Unfortunately, it is shale oil and currently very difficult to remove from the shale. However, at this point, the extraction method currenlty available would keep gas prices where they are now. Quite a conundrum we are in.
Of course, if we suddenly stopped buying oil from the middle east, and relied on our shale and argentinian oil, that may disrupt the entire world economy, especially in the middle east - tough to do that with Saudi currently being our friend. Plus, that would put israel in a very difficult position for the obvious reasons that we would not need them anymore if we severley limited our middle east oil consumption.
By the way Spaced - my apologies for going off on you last night. Just kinda stressed with severly broken leg. Took out frustrations on you when you were only trying to add your opinion to the discussion. It is a very complex situation going on, and all of our thoughts are valid and important. I was wrong to take such a vitriolic approach to your thoughts. Was uncalled for.

yeah, i was supposed to be hacked on today. However, my orthopedist (whom i completely trust) felt that the healing was too far along to rebreak and pin etc etc. In one way good, in one way bad. Back in the full leg cast, but he is going to try and get me out of that after a couple of weeks to let my knee free. I have knee problems too and he doesn't want that to get worse. Oh well, docs know best. I was in the hospital, put under, andall, then i woke up to find out he didn't to the surgery - very weird and kina discouraging. Time will tell how things work out. Frustrated as hell, but as long as things work out in the long run - everything is cool.

Which the Islamofacists do all too well! "Infidels, hated Jews" Their hatred and evil do dehumanize them-great point, spaced!
I don't even think the JapaneseShinto extremists of WW2, would use belt bombs to murder innocent men, women & children. Indeed, those types are subhuman scum.

Ever see the WW2 cartoons we had of the evil(Jew killing)Germans and bucktoothed Japs? (as they were refered to then) to make them the focus of our contempt. They earned it!
The cartoons were great to galvanize the war effort and such cartoons of the present day's Natzi's would be excellent now. They are fighting for NO ONES freedom, unless it's their warped freedom of an Islamic world.
They practice religious intolerance and are evil scum. Do you believe good and evil are simply religious terms? If so, you are a spaced dumbass and a tool of the evil you deny. But I know you're more intelligent than that. I know first hand how "tolerent" the Hammas/Hezbollah nuthugger demonstrators are in San Francisco. True peace brother!

Someday you won't have any good people left, then go ahead, die happily ever after. When the times comes, you'll know that most people -- and Muslims are people -- don't want war. God willing, I ain't gonna be treated thata way.

You could be a paid agent to monitor and act as a provacateur. Your only response, "greatest country in the world" proves nothing except an inability to deal with this factual reality. Many see the latest Israeli actions as a neocon plan to save their investment in the GOP. Try "Bush's Belief in a Worldwide Islamist Conspiracy is Foolish and Dangerous" by Max Hastings at www.commondreams.org or the latest on 'prepping' for Iran before Bush leaves office from Seymour Hersh at www.newyorker.com. Democracy Now! already has Hersh's reaction to the White House response.

Any man who is under 30, and is not a liberal, has not heart; and any man who is over 30, and is not a conservative, has no brains.

>>>Freedom is the ability to listen to the Dead or Rush Limbaugh on your XM radio. Now, how can that not be the greatest country in the world>>>

Listening is great, but it's a narrow range of freedom in town "ever since they tore the jukebox down" -- We can do much better.

Would the greatest country in the world continually commit crimes against humanity, even their own troops? Why a costly war based on false pretense where killing innocents creates rage? Why deny climate change and block alternative energy? And surely there's a place where the Rainbow Family can meet in peace.

Does the greatest country perpetrate systematic torture even though it doesn't yield useful intelligence (see the latest work of Alfred McCoy). If you notice, I'm trying to back up statements with actual facts.

Take a look at "Beyond Treason: The U.S. Government’s Long History of Conducting Deadly Military Experiments." It's a documentary film documenting how the U.S. military has repeatedly conducted deadly medical experiments on American troops, “enemy” soldiers, and civilians. The film discusses vaccines, atomic bomb testing, Agent Orange, depleted uranium, and more.

And please I'm not saying people can't change. I did, though, as you can tell, not enough.

The point is to aim high, or risk shooting a friend in the face!

We can all learn from Lee Atwater, GOP chairman and Karl Rove's teacher, who repented from dirty tricks (from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_Atwater):

"Shortly before his death from a brain tumor he said he had converted to Catholicism and, in an act of repentance, issued a number of public and written apologies to individuals whom he had attacked during his political career, including Dukakis. In a letter to Tom Turnipseed dated June 28, 1990, he stated, "It is very important to me that I let you know that out of everything that has happened in my career, one of the low points remains the so called 'jumper cable' episode," adding, "my illness has taught me something about the nature of humanity, love, brotherhood and relationships that I never understood, and probably never would have. So, from that standpoint, there is some truth and good in everything." [2]

In a February 1991 article for Life Magazine, Atwater wrote:

My illness helped me to see that what was missing in society is what was missing in me: a little heart, a lot of brotherhood. The '80s were about acquiring -- acquiring wealth, power, prestige. I know. I acquired more wealth, power, and prestige than most. But you can acquire all you want and still feel empty. What power wouldn't I trade for a little more time with my family? What price wouldn't I pay for an evening with friends? It took a deadly illness to put me eye to eye with that truth, but it is a truth that the country, caught up in its ruthless ambitions and moral decay, can learn on my dime. I don't know who will lead us through the '90s, but they must be made to speak to this spiritual vacuum at the heart of American society, this tumor of the soul."

Spaced - i must disagree with you on a few points. Number one - i have read excerpts of Lowewens book, and he is a complete ass and cant even get the facts straight. Our all our kids textbooks accurate?? no = but a damn sight more accurate than other counties. That man is a joke and i defy you to take more than 5 or 6 "inaccuracies" that he mentions (meaningful ones, not the "frilly stuff" that joker mentions.
Violent religious intolerance IS more prevalent in islam. That is fact. Granted, the "people" are "coerced" to believe in violence to propogate the more or less geo-political agenda from their leaders which has NOTHING to do with religion, but land and money. Same as the middle age crusades.
#3 - The "innocent" of the Koresh followers???? Dude, i really hope you are only talking about the kids. Any adult in their right mind had to see through that jackass. If they didn't .... they got what they deserved. If my kids lived around that "place" with those fuckin nut jobs with guns, i would have offed them myself given the chance. you gotta be kidden me making that parallel. There certainly is "collateral damage" - murder is murder??? are you shittin me? If something serves the common good and protects my family.... i'll take collateral damage of some fucking nutjobs any day of the week. and if a few innocents get thrown in to save thousands.... sorry, sounds cold, but i'll take it. I'll give you a reference - Sherman's March - read it and you just may learn a thing or two.
"There's little that radical islam can do to hurt the US" - dude - you have no clue. Talk to the families of 9/11 - being from boston, i know three families that lost people. They would drop you before you could take a second breath after making a statement like that. How dare you - where are you, somewhere nice and cozy like North Dakota where no one give a flyin frig about anyways. Get a grip on reality man. Get off your mother's teat and look at what is going on around us.
Futhermore, "piople have to be trained to overcome instincts against killing other people"????? You can't be serious - you obviously have no anthropological background nor any historical psychological background of the basic human condition. Read up man? - i can't convert you in this thread - but you are seriously misinformed of basic human nature.
Sorry to sound so harsh - but get out of the Grateful Dead's lyrics (i.e. utopian ideal) and look at the real world. Yeah, would it be great to follow their lyrics and/or Jesus' ideal - sure, but it aint happening in this world.

I have read it for years, but you don't have facts yourself. Just because the rulers of Russia and China want to rewrite history doesn't mean we can't get our facts straight. White people are not the crown of creation.

>>>Violent religious intolerance IS more prevalent in islam. That is fact. Granted, the "people" are "coerced" to believe in violence to propogate the more or less geo-political agenda from their leaders which has NOTHING to do with religion, but land and money. Same as the middle age crusades.>>>

You don't have any facts, though I know that even a survey would be a large project. You see that politics uses religion, but you fail to acknowledge that the whole world was colonized by the West, and that there is no post colonial but neo-colonialism that the US (and Russia before it fell) inherited from Europe after 2 (fight for control) 'world' wars.

>>>#3 - The "innocent" of the Koresh followers???? Dude, i really hope you are only talking about the kids. Any adult in their right mind had to see through that jackass. If they didn't .... they got what they deserved. >>>

He seemed like a nut job but you don't murder a group of people because they believe in a nutjob. "They got what they deserved" -- wow -- hey I'm not the judge and and am afraid to arrogate that role. They didn't attack anyone and the authorities could have swooped in just for him during his morning jogs.

>>>...i would have offed them myself given the chance. you gotta be kidden me making that parallel. There certainly is "collateral damage" - murder is murder??? ... Ain't that heaven sent.

Collateral damage is murder -- pure and simple no matter what religion you claim.

>>>"There's little that radical islam can do to hurt the US" - dude - you have no clue. ... How dare you ... Get a grip on reality man. Get off your mother's teat and look at what is going on around us.>>>

I actually believe in self protection, but really keep things in perspective. Our country has killed far more than what we lost, speaking an eye for an eye, and didn't even specifically target the suspected perps. No, we "had" to destroy one country then lie to murder and destroy another that had nothing to to with it.

That's reality and you have to face it because we're all complicit for failing to control our current rulers. The least you can do is hate injustice in your heart. You can find, you just have to poke around.

>>>Futhermore, "piople have to be trained to overcome instincts against killing other people"????? You can't be serious - you obviously have no anthropological background nor any historical psychological background of the basic human condition. Read up man? - i can't convert you in this thread - but you are seriously misinformed of basic human nature.>>>

This is a deadly serious matter. If you become a neocon zombie, sure the dark side hires another soul at the price of hell. Zombies can justify torture and murder all they want but they're often chickenhawks who don't have to live with the memories and nightmares that haunt them in this world and maybe the next. Sending young people into unjust wars without good equipment or after care denigrates the honor of military service.

There's plenty of reading to be done, like of Kagan and of Lt. Col. Dave Grossman's Pulitzer-nominated book, "On Killing: The Psychological Cost of Learning to Kill in War and Society" (www.killology.com).

That's not to say human nature is all sweetness and light because those Seven Sins are deadly to the soul.

>>>Sorry to sound so harsh - but get out of the Grateful Dead's lyrics (i.e. utopian ideal) and look at the real world. Yeah, would it be great to follow their lyrics and/or Jesus' ideal - sure, but it aint happening in this world.>>>

I was very cynical before meeting Deadheads and seeing the sounds. While my brother was beaten and robbed at Stones shows, I was given roses at GD shows and could leave my stuff on the floor at Kaiser and pick it up untouched. Amazing even apart from the music.

Don't give up on ideals; they lead to reality. I could say more I think it's been said better already. Might just seem vain, but seriously consider Comes A Time, Scarlet>Fire, Stella Blue. This turning the other cheek stuff is all about trying harder, and the prize is paradise and the vision and pleasure of God.

mamakin - have you ever seen "Rules of Engagement" ? When the shameful Clinton/Reno kabal purposely murdered/burned to death men, women and children? (also returned Alian to communist Cuba at gunpoint)
Koresh? -Ah! just a bunch of child abusing crazy christians. (yeah, talk about child abuse!)
Or the murderous bombing campaign by "Nato" in Kosevo, killing thousands of innocent civilians!
(Bush bomb's-bad, Clinton bombs-good -LOL)
In Ruwanda, millions butchered while we sat by waiting for the F'n UN to do nothing (as usual) And the UN's Human Rights Commission with stellar countries like Sudan, Zimbabwe, China, Russia and Saudi Arabia in it. With all that, Islamofacists have good reason to dance in the streets and be imboldened by the West's weakness and cluelessness.
Now watch Hezbollah re-arm (nice ceasefire-heh) I hope it's a trick by Israel to really hit the Hezbollahscum, while they think Israel is cowtowing to "world opinion"
There should be NO safe haven for terrorist's, hit 'em wherever they are at. I'd be glad to help them meet "Alah"
I'd be very wary of young mid-easterners from SaudiArabia, and that area-
While Bush holds their hands, with an oil enema stuck up his ass. F Tulsa! I'm from the good old SF Bay Area where women are men and men are women and sheep are nervous!
For those who disagree...It's Amerika! you have a right to be wrong!(still-anyway) lol
